Is a licensed lead expert EIA /EA as well as a registered member of the Environmental Institute of Kenya; Engineers Board of Kenya, Horticultural Association of Kenya, Institute of Engineers of Kenya; German Alumni Water Network, German Alumni Food Network; among others. He is a member of the Management Board of the Water Resources and Research Centre (WARREC), the Environment Institute of Kenya and the Committee of Non-Related persons in Africert Limited.
He currently works at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology as an Associate Professor in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, and serves as the Dean of the School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering. Previously, he worked as Assistant Director (Research) in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology; as a Research Associate in Liebniz University Hannover (Germany); as a Project Researcher (Protected Cultivation) in the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand); as an Estates Manager (Coffee) with Sasini Coffee and Tea Ltd (Kenya); and as an Irrigation Engineer with Booth Irrigation Limited (Kenya). He has undertaken various EIA studies for international organisations including Buehler Training School and Krones LCS both within the Ruiru Municipality, Kiambu County. In addition, Mutwiwa has rich experience in research and consultancy, within the agricultural sector and has undertaken various assignments on sustainability of various agricultural value chains. He has authored various research publications in peer reviewed journals and participated in scientific conferences both locally and internationally; as well as supervised both postgraduate students.
He holds a PhD and MSc in Horticultural Sciences majoring in Biosystems Engineering from Liebniz University Hannover (Germany), and BSc in Agricultural Engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya).
